So, I carefully looked over Best Buy's price matching policy and it says that BB will match prices for a local store's in-store price. I went to my local Best Buy in Jersey City, which is perhaps 5 miles away from B&H Photo Video's store in midtown Manhattan, and they told me that they won't match against it. Apparently, B&H is some "online discount retailer" that the Customer Service representative at the Best Buy store hadn't even heard of!

This has been discussed before on the forums:

In my case though, the store I went to is about 5 miles away so I think it is fair to say that B&H can be considered a local competitor to it. Anyone from Best Buy/Geek Squad want to try to explain this?

I don't work for BB, but I can easily explain it. The employee was wrong. They should've matched the price, provided the other guidelines were met.

Yep. As long as the competitor was in the same market (which they would have been, 5 miles away from the BB you visited), had the same product in stock, and the price at the competitor wasn't a clearance price or manager's special, the PM should have been honored. If you haven't already went to the competitor, one of the Community Connectors (BB corp employees/forum moderators) should be able to reach a resolution w/ you and the store involved. He or she will also be able to forward on the issue to that store's management since the associates you came in contact w/ obviously weren't following policy. Keep in mind CCs don't work weekends, holidays, or overnights, and threads are assigned in the order they are posted.

Hey Henry, any chance you guys could put up a store in the midwest? Chicago or Milwaukee preferrably? It would save my wifes sanity when I order gear from you guys and walk around looking out the door waiting for the UPS truck if I could just drive over to pick it up.![]()

I'm the same way, with the UPS, I mean. Though I'm constantly online checking my tracking numbers ![]()
