Possible bait and switch?

I bought a fridge from BB about 3.5 weeks ago that was on sale that weekend, at the time of purchase I was told that it was on back order and would take at most 2-3 weeks for them to deliver it to my house. I was okay with the delay and so I purchased the fridge along with a washer and dryer.

Flash forward to 2 weeks later, I got a call from the BB store I had made the purchase from and was told the fridge is still on back order but they will have stock around 12/18/09. I called today for an update and got the news that they will NOT have any inventory around the 18th but they are not even sure if they'll have any by January! Was I a victim of bait and switch? They had a fridge on sale for a week at a great price to entice customers to buy other appliances along with the fridge but then it turns out inventory is near non-existent?

Since I bought a brand new house, I don't have a fridge for nearly 4 weeks now and it seems like it'll stay that way for at least a month. I would switch to another model but the price difference is too substantial. Any advice?

Re: Possible bait and switch?

Hey hastalavista,

The purchase of a brand-new appliance is by no means a small investment, so I can imagine how anxious you must feel for your fridge to arrive.  Without additional information regarding your order, however, it would be difficult to determine why the unit is on backorder.

Products can go on backorder for a number of reasons – the product may be discontinued by the manufacturer, demand may have exceeded expectations, or your local warehouse may simply be waiting for the product to arrive from a regional shipping facility.  Regardless of what the case may be in this situation, rest assured that I’d be glad to help you out.

I would like to take this opportunity to gather some additional information from you, so please keep an eye on your private messages.  You can check your private messages by signing into the forums and then clicking on the letter icon in the upper right-hand corner of the page.
