Policy: Photo ID Required for All Returns/Exchanges

To help keep prices low for all our customers, Best Buy® tracks returns and exchanges on an individual level.  Effective January 30, 2011, when you return or exchange an item in our retail stores, we require a valid form of photo ID.

 

Valid forms of photo ID are:

U.S., Canadian or Mexican Driver’s License

U. S. State ID

Canadian Province ID

U.S. Military ID

Passport

 

What information is captured?

While the information captured varies from state to state, it includes ID card identification number, name and date of birth.  All information is captured in accordance with state and federal laws regarding consumer privacy.

 

What are you going to do with my ID information?

The information is stored in a secure database that we use only to authorize returns. Your information will not be sold or used for marketing purposes.

 

What if I don’t have an ID or a valid form of ID?

Our employees will politely ask you to return to the store at a later time with your ID card or with someone that has a valid form of ID.
