Best Buy knowingly sells Magic Jack in towns where that area code is NOT supported by Magic Jack. Why? I just purchased a Magic Jack at the Enfield CT store (area code 860). That area code is not supported by Magic Jack and Best Buy doesn't bother to tell me when I purchase it that I can't use the Magic Jack?
Acutally, I can use the Magic Jack, so long as I choose an area code and a town that I don't actually live in! Really makes the 911 service useful, don't you think?

You must be on to something... surely Best Buy has some sort of nefarious plan to intentionally deceive people who want the Magic Jack. What will they think of next...THE HORROR!

Magic Jack is sold nationally by Best Buy. We do not know what area codes are not available. For the longest time, Vonage did not have a Knoxville area code (865) but it was still sold by Best Buy and other retailers in the area.

I realize that I have 30 days to return the device and that's what I'll do today. The point is that the associates in the store should (or do) know that the Magic Jack doesn't work in the town they sold it in. If they would have just told me that up front it could have saved me and the store the time and trouble. Now I'll take the product back and waste more time, the stores time, etc. It could have been a lot easier for everyone concerned.

I apologize for the inconvenience but the store has no way to know unless they try to use it. Magic Jack does not provide a lot of documentation or training. Be sure to let them know while you are there, in a civil manner, that the local area code is not currently supported by Magic Jack.

I'm sorry, but some of you are just being *ssholes. I don't think it's unreasonable for BB to do a little research into the products they sell and whether or not they can be used in a certain area or not.
Why are they wasting precious time, money, AND shelf space stocking a product that does not work in the area the store is located in? It doesn't make any sense to me. Yeah, there is the off chance that someone from out of town may buy one, but do you really think they're selling enough to warrant the cost of stocking them?
