Best Buy & Geek Squad Policies

Hi,

I purchased the last MacBook Pro, 15inch 2.5 ghz ( not the LATEST model but the older one) yesterday from Best Buy. I opened it up last night and noticed that the track pad is warped and dented in. You can notice it withe naked eye and can feel it with your fingers/hands. (

I am curious, will it be replced because I am within the 14 day period? There are not any MBPs which meet my specs in the district. Any idea on how this well work?

Yes, you should be able to return it. You can also bring it to an apple store and they will fix it for you for free since you are in warranty. The same thing happened to me after using mine for 6 months. They just replaces the plastic casing on the MacBook and I was all set to go.

OK. Will they be able to perform the repair at the store? Is that within policy?

What are the chances of them giving me a new Mac? I want to start transferring files to the Mac but don't want to do that if they are going to give me a new one.

Alright... a bit ticked off. I took it to the best buy store and they said they can't exchange becasue they do not have any in stock. They didn't ofer to send it of for service. They said I could upgrade for the difference... I don't understand why I have to pay to upgrade or an item i didnt want in the first place.

I definetely do understand your frustration and I hope everything gets solved quickly for you. You could always wait until they have them in stock, assuming it is not discontinued. Or you could find out which stores in your area have the computer and exchange it at that store. That last option would be to bring it into a Apple store and have it repaired.

No other stores carry this laptop anymore. It is a discontinued product from Apple. Now what am I to do? I bought a defective laptop... why should I have to pay MORE money to get a functioning laptop ???

Unfortunetly that is the downside of buying a discontinued laptop. Your options:

-Return the laptop and buy another in your price range

-Keep it and get it repaired for free by Apple.

While it may be frustrating and disappointing, payroll has really presented you with the two viable options available to you at this time.  If the computer is not available anymore you can either:

·         Return the laptop and purchase a different one

·         Keep the unit and take advantage of your manufacturer’s warranty with Apple, you may be able to have this performed through the Geek Squad®. 

Please keep in mind notebook computers fall under a 14 day return policy, therefore if you decide to return the unit, please ensure you have this done within the time frame.
