I purchased a Canon 40 D SLR camera in Nov. of 07. In April of 09 I started having issues with an error 99 coming up. I tried trouble shooting to see what was wrong and the only thing I could come up with was the shutter. I took the camera into Best Buy where it is covered under the black tie warranty. The camera was sent out and about 3 weeks later it returned and I was told the shutter was replaced. When I started using the camera I noticed that it was not only still having the error 99 issue but it was also taking very dark pictures now and the shutter button was freezing. I took it back to Best Buy where it was sent out again. Because I use the camera for a new, aspiring photography business Best Buy would sell me a 50D with no restocking fee so that I would not be out of commission while my camera was away (very thankful for this!). I received a phone call a few weeks into the camera being gone telling me there was nothing wrong with the camera and it met factory specifications. Before I could call them back (the very next day) they had already shipped the camera back. I explained my frustrations to the geek squad and was told to document everything it was doing and bring it back. I spent an entire weekend documenting everything that was wrong with it, including a now slowed shutter when taking rapid movement. I took video of what it was doing as well as pictures and put everything on a flash drive to send with the camera. When I took the camera back in I explained everything, copied the files to a flash drive provided. It was asked that the repair shop please call me to explain everything because there is only 200 letters the technicians can use to decribe to the shop what is wrong and that was just not enough. So, the camera is sent out for a 3rd time. No one ever calls and I have no number to contact them. Upon return of the camera I am told that the files I spent an entire weekend putting together were not sent with the camera. At this point I am very frustrated. The camera was listed as having been repaired, however, all it showed was humidifiers. I didn't have the camera back a day and I could tell that it was still very much broken. Dark pictures, the shutter still sticks, etc. so back to the shop it goes for a 4th time! I just got the camera back yesterday and it stated that they replaced the shutter mechanism (again) In using the camera today the shutter is still sticking, the pictures are still darker than they should be and the shutter still slows in rapid firing mode. I don't know what else to do? Each time we have to take the camera in they sell us the 50D and we return it when my 40D comes back. I have none of the issues with the other camera. I am now beyond frustrated and have done everything I was asked only to still have a broken camera. I am hoping that someone can help me as This has gone on too long. The camera has spent the last 5 months in the shop and I have spent that amount of time going back and forth, buying and returning another camera only to still have a broken camera. I am happy to send files showing what the camera is doing....including dark, flat images taking in the bright sun at 200 ISO, 2.8. I have used all of my other eqipment (lenses, batteries, battery pack, etc. on the 50D and all work fine) Please help! ![]()

Thank you! I will look forward to hearing from him. I took pictures this past weekend with my 40D in bright sunlight....the pictures is pretty much black. I emediatly switched to a 20D with the same lens, battery, flash card, etc. and the picture was fine. I have documented this and can send both images if wanted.
I greatly appreciate any help!

I still have not heard from Allan? I guess I take the camera back into Best Buy and send it to the shop for a 5th time! Needless to say I am not sure I would reccomend buying a high end camera from Best Buy as this has been going on for 5 months and I can't seem to get anyone to help. Every time the camera comes back from the shop something else is wrong with it. The last time it came back with a Nikon strap. I have tried to talk to management and have gotten the run around. All I want is a camera that works....what I paid for.

The Community Connectors research issues before posting. You should be hearing from him in the next couple of days. I apologize for the delay and appreciate your patience.

Sorry, I don't have much patience left. I would be happy to give my phone number if someone ever replies privately. Buyer beware. Be sure to read the black tie warranty. The camera has to be repaired 4 times before you are given a new one so when they send it back saying nothing is wrong with it (their mistake) it doesn't count as a repair. I still have a camera that shoots black pictures and the shutter button often does not take a picture when I hold it down. 5 months this has been going on. How much money does Best Buy have to put into this and how much money do I have to loose before someone makes this right?

I understand and I wish I could help personally but I cannot. Only hardware repairs count towards the No Lemon Guarantee. This is to prevent someone from claiming there is a problem 4 times to simply get a new unit.

It has been repaired 3 times and now takes black pictures. I am not trying to get a new product, simply wanting one that works. Maybe the repair shop could repair it if Geek Squad could give them the flash drive provided. (that they requested I make and never sent with the camera) Every time the camera has to go in for repair and is opened up the sensors are compromised. If it was fixed properly the first time there would be no issue. There is a multitude of issues going on here and none of them are being addressed. I have countless pictures that are completely useless, my cell phone camera could take better pictures.

Hi marleyimages,
Being a photographer myself I can attest that five months without my camera would be far too long to wait to have a working camera, and I’m sure this is the same for you especially given the fact that this camera is for your business.
I did look into your repairs, and I confirmed that this camera has indeed been out four times since May of 2009; I also confirmed that we have replaced the shutter twice on this camera. I don’t see that you have sent the camera back out for service, and I would like to offer my personal assistance in getting this resolved for you. I am sending you a private message, and to check your messages you should log into the forum and then click on the letter icon in the upper right-hand corner of the page.
Thanks for posting,
