Is there any way to get employees to leave me alone?

Whenever I go into Best Buy, I am approached by anywhere between 5 to 10 different employees asking if I need help with something.  I guess it's nice that they're trying to help, but it gets rather annoying, especially since they usually follow up with some spiel about what I should buy.  99% of the time, I know what I'm looking for and where to look for it.  I know all of the game/movie deals before going in and I know how to read and compare computer specs.  If I ever have a question, I know how to find someone and ask them.  Honestly, I think there needs to be a special hat or button I can wear to let the employees know I've got everything under control.  This is a stupid complaint and suggestion, I know, but it's an annoyance that sometimes keeps me from entering the store.  And I know they're just doing their job, but when I'm out shopping, I really don't feel like being polite to everyone who bugs me while I'm trying to decide between two products I don't even need.

Sorry for basically trolling, but it feels good to vent.  Feel free to ignore me (I sure wish your employees would!).

Re: Is there any way to get employees to leave me alone?

Unfortunately, probably not.  The managers at the store would rather customers have too many people availible and wanting to help rather than having a customer have nobody around, especially when they need help.

To be completely honest, there are more complaints of not having anybody around when customers need help, rather than your issue so they would probably rather err on the side of caution.

Re: Is there any way to get employees to leave me alone?

Yeah, basically what I figured. I of course do not realistically expect a solution to such a silly problem; I just want special treatment because I'm egocentric. Heh. I must say, however, that I can't imagine anyone having issues with unavailable employees at this particular location. They've got a ton of employees at this store and it seems like half of them just walk laps around the aisles because there isn't anything else to do. Probably works out well for most of the other customers, but not grumpy ol' me.

You could always wear a shirt that says I do not need help but will ask if I do. Ignore them when they speak to you. I understand what you are saying about being asked by multiple people if you need help. With this being good customer service, sometimes to much CS is a bad thing as well.

Re: Is there any way to get employees to leave me alone?

Agreed. As I mentioned earlier, I'm basically an unfriendly person when I'm out shopping because it's so stressful sometimes, but I don't want to be rude to people who technically don't deserve it, so ignoring them is out of the question. I might try wearing a special shirt (or probably a hat), but I have my doubts that it will deter anyone.

You could pretend you did not hear them.

I'm NOT an employee of Best Buy, or Geek Squad, though I did work as an Agent for a year. None of my posts are to be taken as the official stance that Best Buy will take on your situation. My advice is just that, advice.

I could, but I still wouldn't feel comfortable doing so.  I guess it's not so much a concern that I will be perceived as rude but rather that I will feel rude.  Which seems totally absurd to me, but I can't really help it.

The in-store deals are almost always better than the online ones (at least when it comes to stuff I want) and there are certain things you can't get free shipping for, so I would have to use site-to-store which results in me being in the store again.

Heh, that could be useful.  I just might have to make myself a shirt that has a similar message printed on it.  Or maybe I could just dress up as an employee.  There are so many there already, they probably wouldn't even notice!

Re: Is there any way to get employees to leave me alone?

This is a great thread!  As an employee I absolutely LOVE that you know its the employees job to say hello and don't want to be rude to them!  THANK YOU!!!  While I cannot offer you too many suggestions to keep them away, a polite no thank you sometimes works.  I know in my store we tend to communicate that we have already helped a customer or if you have something already in your hands you could just say "found it!" when they come over (whether or not you are buying that item).  Thank you again for being AWESOME and for being a Best Buy customer :smileyhappy:
