ID required for returns

I just wanted to share with everyone: I needed to return some wall plates and switches to Home Depot this evening. I had receipt in hand as I purchased them no more than three hours ago (didn't know if we were going to go white or "almond") and guess what......I was required to show my ID which was scanned into the system. Anyone else know of any other retailers first hand?

I post on these forums to help. I know that my advice may not be in line with what you believe is fair and just. YES, I do believe that there are employees and managers that are uninformed, difficult to work with...you name it. However, MOST are not like that.

I think it's important for retailers to protect themselves and future customers.

 

Retailers may be trying to track people making returns to minimize scams.

I'd suggest going back to Home Depot and complaining to the manager. Make sure to tell them that you spend thousands eah year and you are the go-to person in your family for home repairs an you will make sure that none of your family or friends will ever shop there again. Then threaten them with a BBB complaint and talk about how your going to notify the attorney general in your state and your local news organizations. Make sure to somehow utilize the phrase "bait and switch" for old times sake.

Actually, I do spend thousands each month there haha. We buy foreclosures, fix them, then rent them. I simply thought that with all this targetting Best Buy about IDs for returns, we begin to keep track of which retailers actually require this.

I got the joke, but people
Glossed over the fact that my local WM and Targets are doing the same thing. But theirs don't so I am just a BBY "super user" or fanboi...
