Get rid of the DirectTV sales people from Best Buy stores!

In the past year, nearly every Best Buy store in my area has added DirecTV sales people to the floor. Personally, these sales people are really annoying and pushy and many of them won't take no for an answer. I really don't need to hear about how great DirecTV is and how "it blows Comcast out of the water" when I shopping at a Best Buy store for cameras, an ipad, computer parts, or just looking and researching TVs for a future purcase.

About 3 weeks ago, I went into the Park Meadows location in Lone Tree, Colorado, and was constantly bugged by a DirecTV sales person when I was trying to purchase a new mouse for my computer. The sales person refused to leave me alone even after I told him that I wasn't interested in subscribing to DirecTV, he just kept on saying "DirecTV is way better than Comcast" and "Signing up for DirecTV is a no-brainer it will save you hundreds of dollars a year," and continued to pester me with offers, even when I made it clear that I wasn't interested. I was pretty upset with the pushy salesperson and I ended up purchasing the mouse elsewhere.

I don't understand why at a time when Best Buy is focused on "radically improving the in-store customer experience" why the company would allow these annoying sales people to bug shoppers who aren't even interested in DirecTV. These DirecTV sales people really ruin the in-store experience.

If Best Buy is so interested in promoting DirecTV, why not just put the DirecTV sales people at a desk. That way customers who are interested in subscribing to DirecTV can go and talk with them, while people, like me, who aren't interested in DirecTV, can shop in peace.

Re: Get rid of the DirectTV sales people from Best Buy stores!

^^True and a very funny post.:smileyhappy:

However, when I come into shop at Best Buy for a computer mouse, I really don't need to be pestered by a DirecTV sales guy. If he/she can't help me with what I'm interested in purchasing, I feel they should leave me alone. Even if we are purchasing a TV, like we did last Sunday at a Best Buy store in Centennial, CO, I still find it annoying to have a pushy sales person in my face, If I'm interested in DirecTV I will go and talk to the DirecTV sales people at a desk, if I'm not interested in subscribing to DirecTV, I would prefer to shop in peace.

Not all of the Direct TV sales people are like this, and to be fair to them, they have saved many customers a lot of money.

If there is an overly aggressive rep, alert a manager. If they receive enough complaints, most likely the rep won't be back.

Re: Get rid of the DirectTV sales people from Best Buy stores!

Hello Jim,

Thank you for the reponse. I do agree that the DirecTV reps. offer a valuable service to many customers and I did alert a manager once (the manager asked the DirecTV rep. to leave me alone, which I appreciated).

In future, I wish that the DirecTV rep. would ask customers who are shopping for TVs something like "Are you satisfied with your television provider, if not, can I interest you DirecTV?" or just have a DirecTV desk, where customers can go and chat with the DirecTV reps, while other customers, who aren't interested in DirecTV, can shop in peace.

Right now, too many of the DirecTV reps. in stores, are pretty pushy and others can be rude. I have met one friendly DirecTV rep. who asked me if I was content with my television provider and left me alone when I said "yes," the rest (about 10 other DirecTV reps) have been rude and pushy with me.

Could not agree more. Let's hope we see some real progress in your local store.

Re: Get rid of the DirectTV sales people from Best Buy stores!

Hi Rohank77,

We welcome your insight about your recent shopping experiences at our Lone Tree, CO store. I sincerely apologize for the "pushiness" of the DirecTV representatives, but as others have stated, not all of them are like this and they do save interested people money. On a similar note, I can understand if you just want to come into the store and "window shop" or get what you want and leave without them bothering you.

I'll address this internally with your local store management, so they are aware of your concerns.
