Geek Squad Service

[ Edited ]

purchased a Television from Best Buy on 11/11.

They had an offer where if you purchased a Geek Squad service, you got 36 months no interest.  I picked out my Television, and planned on getting the 4 year Geek Squad Black Tie service plan, fulfill the offer.

At the store I was told that that offer did not qualify, and I had to get a different Geek Squad service plan.  I feel that I was then swindeled into getting a TV Calibration that I do not need, as well as the 4 year service plan.  I don't want this calibration, and it still hasn't been done yet.

Is it true that the Geek Squad service plan is not a Geek Squad service? I find that to be hard to believe.  I would like this calibration reversed if I was lied to.

To boot, the salesman, snuck a 99.99 TV setup charge onto my recipt, even though I had planned (and already have) installed the television myself.  That I spoke with the store and am currently getting it reversed.

Best Buy salesmen should not be like used car salesmen.

Re: Geek Squad Service

Hi IIIPgCIII,

I’m sorry for all the confusion in what should have been easily explained when you purchased the TV. I do see that in our ad for the week of 11/09/2008-11/15/2008 we had a financing offer on page 12 that says a customer can get three years of no interest financing on any HDTV $499 and up if they purchase a Geek Squad® service in addition to the TV. A Geek Squad® Black Tie Protection Plan (GSBTP) would not be considered a service since a service does need to be performed. There are three Geek Squad® services excluded from this offer in the footnotes, which are home delivery, consultation, and calibration. You were most likely charged for TV setup, because the calibration you paid for would not have qualified you for the financing offer you wanted. If you have not gotten the calibration performed yet I would bring your receipt back to the store and get a refund for the calibration charge, but if you want the three years of no interest financing you would need to leave the TV setup charge paid for. I would like to resolve this for you so I am sending you a private message.
