My son bought an ipod last year.  It was sold to us as a 3rd generation.  (I even have the receipt with that listed and the accidental insurance.)  I am frustrated that we were misled that it was a 3rd generation.  I am not even sure why he checked the model numbers but he did.  I didn't believe him at first.  Not sure what I should do now.  VERY FRUSTRATED here, any ideas?

Is it an 8gb? If so there really wasn't a 3rd gen 8gb. If you look at apple's identifying guide: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1353 it shows the 2nd generation as having an 8 gb and the 3rd, only 32gb and 64gb. They kept the 8gb in production that was 2nd gen while the 3rd was out.

i have the same issue... it should not matter if apple kept the G2 8gb in production or not, should get a G2 and not a "G3" because all apple support sees is a G2 apple Ipod. Makes me mad seeing updates that I was susposed to get. but cant due to best buys mess up
