Digital Cameras, test drive in-store

I went to the Best Buy on Harrison, in SF, to test drive digital cameras. My intention was to compare the features on high end digital cameras. Unfortunately, all of the cameras were dead (no power, or dead battery). I left the store without my test-drive, or the new camera that I wanted to buy that night. I'd like to try again, but don't want to waste my time on another fruitless trip to the store. Suggestions?

My only suggestion would be to try a different store.

Hi kevinm412,

I am very sorry to hear that you were unable to test out the digital cameras in our store as you had hoped.  Please allow me to assure you that we provide our floor models in an effort to help our customers make the purchases that are best for them, and I apologize again that we were unable to properly assist you with this during your recent visit.

However, I wanted to let you know that I am currently looking into this matter further to determine how we can best help you to purchase the camera of your dreams as quickly as possible :smileywink:, and as soon as I have more information I will follow up with you again by private message, so please keep your eyes open for a “new message” alert in the upper right-hand corner of the page to follow shortly (when signed in).

Thank you for your patience and cooperation and have a great day!

You would be better off going to an actual camera store where they have the cameras WITH the actual batteries in them so you can hold them and use them as you would if you actually owned them. To be blunt, and speaking from my experience as both a Best Buy employee and customer, you really can't test the cameras in the stores. The anti-theft measures make it impossible to do so on most of the cameras and they are physically and electrically tethered to the display island which means you can't do much if anything with them let alone put in a memory card to take test shots. As for the cameras being without power, that too is a problem that has always plagued the stores because nobody cares enough to fix the displays in most cases or the department head needs to do paperwork to get replacement parts which comes out of their budget.
