Re: Deceptive Advertising?

Hello. Read my Black Friday posting in this forum and you will see that the Geek Squad optimized my computer by NOT ensuring web advertised software was on the computer. I have worked computer desktop support in the past and I would be fired for that.

How did the Geek Squad optimize Vista? I had to optimize it myself by turning off all the GUI extras that slow down Vista.

I purchased the same $479.00 package and was not that much charged extra for the Geek Squad optimization. All they did was make a backup installation disk. That was surprizing because Toshiba included the original installation disks with the computer. BB policies apparently vary between stores.

I think Best Buy is trying to maintain the Geek Squad buy doing those outragous charges. It would be cheaper to buy the extended warranties from the manufacturers and send the computers back than take them to Geek Squad.

BB, why protect a poor business model?

Hey, here is a good idea for you...PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT YOU BUY. Ask questions if it does not add up (you can add...right?). READ the ticket you have been holding for the past two hours (you can read...right?).

Re: Deceptive Advertising?

Who do you think you are criticizing me.  The point is in the advertising, not that I can or cannot read.  Oh and by the way I can.  Get your facts straight before you start criticizing someone else.  You can read can't you?  They were wrong, they made good on the deal. At least the electronics company will be around unlike yours.

Re: Deceptive Advertising?

Hello CircuitFan,

I read the advertisement for my computer $479.00 Toshiba Black Friday deal and it included: Microsoft Works 9, Compudyne LoJack for computers, and ULead DVD Creator. When I got the computer home, it was missing all three of those items. I complained to Best Buy but was Stonewalled and was getting bogus bouncebacks from them. I complained to a consumer advocacy group and the BBB and Best Buy, while not admitting fault, payed me the $140.00 cost of the software. So I READ the advertisement and followed through when Best Buy was at fault.

I also had discovered Geek Squad had backed up my computer even though install disks were included. Geek Squad had just duplicated the disks because the seal was broken on Toshiba's install disks. They included their service with the package and you will find that another user in the Forum protested that cost with here added beyond their $479.00 cost. I didn't because the discounts negated that cost and I didn't have extra costs on my package.

You say you are a CircuitFan, but you respond like a BB and Geek Squad fan. CC may be dying as a company but I am sure some other company will rise with better service and swallow BB's business.

Erikny and everyone else. I had the same problem with that lap top on Black Friday and all they did was give me a $60 gift card for FORCING ME to buy that crazy geek squad thing. Please email me because I would like to speak with people who had this problem. Especially since I can't go to circuit city now.

please email me so we can all fight this together. They should now be allowed to do this to us and I'm sure they took advantage of many parents/grandparents who didn't know any better.

Thank you.

This happened to me as well and all they did was give me a $60 gift card to use at their store! And I got a virus on my computer with their stupid anti-virus program. I'd like to hear from others and how they resolved your issues if they did at all. I don't think they should get away with this...it's very unethical.
