I have a few questions about the deal going on right now that if you buy a Premium laptop, Geek Squad will transfer your data for free.
1 - Does the data transfer include .pst files to Outlook? I have purchased Office 2010 & have a network key.
2 - Does it include Favorites/Bookmarks?
I also am not able to load Windows on my current laptop - I'm getting a hal.dll error. Will that need to be fixed BEFORE any data can be transferred over? Or can you still access data w/o loading Windows?

One more question - how long does the data transfer take? Will I be able to walk out w/ my new laptop & transferred data? Or do I have to leave it there?

We can usually pull the HDD out of the old unit that has that hal.dll error and access the data. If it's some sort of old funky all in one that we cannot get to the HDD it might be more difficult.
1- We can leave the pst file on the desktop of the new computer for you to import once you have Outlook installed or you can have us install Outlook for you and we can import the pst at that time.
2- Yes we'll have you fill out a form telling us what files you want transferred. If you tell us you want Favorites we'll transfer the favorites ![]()
As to how long it takes it depends on how much data you have which needs to be transferred and what the stores current work load is. This question would be better answered by them if you're looking for specifics. You will need to leave the old and new machine with us until the transfer is complete.
Also you might want to look into purchasing Geek Squad Tech Support with the new computer. That would cover us installing software, running hardware diagnostics, fixing OS issues, removing viruses and installing hardware upgrades for up to 3 computers. That means once the data transfer is done we could install Outlook for you under Tech Support and also fix your old machine with the HAL.DLL error on boot. There's a significant discount to Tech Support when purchased with a new computer so it's something you might want to ask the PC associates about.
