Blu-Ray won't play in any player, but was bought 5 months ago

TItle says it all, I bought a blu-ray back in December, and just now got around to watching it, but it won't play in any player (I've tried 3).  Since it was bought in December, does that fall under the "holiday" return policy?  Or am I just screwed at getting this exchanged since I waited too long to open it?

Yes, you did wait too long, and now you are stuck with it.

I wish you better luck next time.

What is the error message? Perhaps you just need an update.

No error, it just wont play.  And yes, I've updated all three of my players.

Go into your local store and see if they will exchange. It never hurts to ask, especially since the disc is defective. If necessary, show them there are no scratches and see if they will try to play it on one of their units in-store.

I'm not sure if there is a MFG, per-se, so I'm not sure how this will play out.

Hi sitlet,

It sounds like you will need to go into your local store for service repairs. You won't be able to exchange it because it is beyond the return policy, however, it is still under manufacturer's coverage, so you can also work directly with the manufacturer for alternative options.

Justin... From what I gathered, It's the disc itself and not the player, since he has tried the disc in 3 devices with updated firmware...

Hey hydrogenw,

The OP just states that it won't play, so that doesn't necessarily mean that it's a "defective disc". It may very well be, but the OP's best option is to visit the local store for further assistance.

Thanks for your help! :smileyhappy:

I think hydrogen was pointing out that the op is inquiring about a blu ray movie, not a blue ray player. The defective thing is a movie not a purchased player so service coverage and manufacturers warranty and such really doesn't apply.

Re: Blu-Ray won't play in any player, but was bought 5 months ago

Exactly. That's what I was trying to get at..

It's a 5-month old, opened Blu-Ray that won't play in 3 differnet players that, I'm assuming, have no issue running other Blu-Ray discs (who keeps a Blu-Ray player around that won't play a disc properly?)

Bringing the Player to the store isn't the solution becase a) we don't know when/where it was purchased, and even if it is under warranty (by MFG or BBY), the player works fine.

Bringing the disc to the store won't do any good unless they decide to exchange it... Which is the avenue I'd, personally, try for.

I think the real question here is: "What do I do if I buy a Blu-Ray movie from Best Buy that does not work properly, but is not within the return/exchange period"

In cases of hardware, components, etc.. the MFG would be the option here, but Im pretty sure Blu-Ray discs do not come with a MFG warranty.

What is/are the OPs recourse/options, assuming the disc IS defective.
