Bestbuy refused to accept Manufacturer's Coupon and called me and Buena Vista a fraud

On January 26th, 2010 at 5:00pm, I was going to make a purchase for Surrogates on Bluray at the BestBuy store #125 in Pasadena, CA using the $10 coupon received from the following site: http://chooseyoursurrogate.com/ which has a link to http://video.movies.go.com/surrogates/couponoffer/.  The cashier refused the coupon because they said I printed it online.  To my knowledge the only way to get the coupon was through the website that is currently being run by Buena Vista.  I ask to speak to the manager whose name was Kelly.  She said that the coupon was fake and I was trying to cheat them.  I am very upset at this remark.  This is the second time that using the manufacturer's coupon was refused.  I am extremely upset and will never step into a Bestbuy store again until someone from Bestbuy apologizes.  Furthermore, her remark is an attack towards the distributors saying that the coupons they offer are fake.  I will take this complaint to Buena Vista as well.  I hope someone up high in Bestbuy will take a look at their policy again.  Thanks fr taking the time to read my complaint.

They definitely should have honored the coupon. If this happens again, call 1-888-BESTBUY while still in the store, and they should be able to teach the manager how to do her job.

BTW, I'm a bit confused. You're...complaining to Buena Vista? What did they do wrong?

The manager wouldn't even do it.  I ask them to go to the website but they refused.   Is this normal company policy to call people liars and not prove themself?  This has happened to me twice at Bestbuy.  I guess the manager is always right and the customer is always wrong.  For me, until I get some type of apology, I won't be shopping at Bestbuy again.  I hope the site manager in Pasadena, CA knows about this and isn't the one leading the idea.

If Buena Vista knows that Bestbuy's policy is not to accept their coupons, maybe Buena Vista will bring their business elsewhere.

There's not really any chance of that happening...

An isolated incident in a single store doesn't make something a corporate policy.

With the number of fake and scam coupons as there are milling about these days, and how easy it is to photoshop a coupon on a computer, it is in Best Buy's interest to perform due diligence and make sure that they are accepting valid coupons.  Unfortunately, it sounds like the manager at this particular store didn't feel the need to perform due diligence, but that doesn't mean that it's "Bestbuy's policy is not to accept their coupons"

You will probably hear from a Community Connector sometime soon about this.  However, since they only work business hours, it will be tomorrow before a BBY employee checks the forum again.  Hopefully they'll be able to help you out.

Actually, this is the second time they did it to me at the same store.  Managers at this store simply refuse to let me show them where I got the coupon from before sending me home.  First time happened a year again when I first used the coupon.  I complained at this forum and the moderators told me that it should be accepted.  I trusted that Bestbuy has done something to update their policy so I tried it again today.  With my luck, they did not accept it and called me a liar similar to the last time.  I guess I am 0 for 2 on coupons.  Thanks for your feedback.  I hope someone in the Comunity Connector can help me.  I am ready to give up shopping at Bestbuy and go somewhere else.

It's not a matter of BB updating their policy, but a matter of the store actually following policy.

I agree.  So, I am wondering if the person managing the Pasadena area doing anything about it?  My assumption is NO since this has been a year and they still haven't done anything to address the issue.

Re: Bestbuy refused to accept Manufacturer's Coupon and called me and Buena Vista a fraud

Hi loganhunter,

I sorry that once again you had problems getting our store in Pasadena, CA to honor a manufacturer’s coupon, and I can definitely apologize for how this was handled in this store.

It is true that our stores do honor manufacturer’s coupons, and the coupon can be printed. For a manufacturer’s coupon to be accepted at one of our stores all we require is that the coupon state that it is a manufacturer’s coupon, there is a barcode on the coupon that can be scanned, and that the manufacturer’s address is printed on the coupon.

In light of this thread I have sent an email to the management of this store, and have asked them to make sure they are correctly abiding by our policy on manufacturer’s coupons. I have also asked them to contact you in order to get you resolution in this matter. If you need anything from me just send me a message by clicking on the link in my signature.

Thanks for posting,
