BestBuy and Geek Squad future after competitor bankrupt

The number two electronics retailer announced that they are closing today. I'm talking about the electronics retailer with employees that wear red shirts. It is too bad that they are closing because they had great customer service, do not screw people of their money and treat customers with respect unlike BestBuy and GeekSquad. BestBuy will have to eventually follow suit if they do not get their act straightened out. Service is what will separate businesses.

I have a $1475 camera in repair now since January 7, 2009 and have no status reports on what is wrong and if it needs repair or replacement. I paid $175 for a Product Service Plan and I'm not getting any kind of service at all. I called BestBuy and all they say is that it is in repair. I called Geek Squad and I never got a hold of a real person to inquire about my repair. I left a message with my number and repair number two days ago and I never got a call back yet. I posted this complaint on another thread and BestBuy replied with an automatic apology and said that someone will get in touch with me in 3-5 days to handle my issue. That was 7 days ago. Online shopping is the way to go if I'm not going to get any service and treated rudely by BestBuy and GeekSquad. I'll buy my gear from leading online retailers which I cannot name but can refer to as a jungle in South America and spend my money from those companies.

Lots of people on this forum are have lots of horror stories and are frustrated with the lack of service provided by BestBuy and GeekSquad. How does everyone feel about BestBuy being number one with no competitors around? Do you think they will care not that there is not much competition around? Do you feel service will deteriorate even more?

Re: BestBuy and Geek Squad future after competitor bankrupt

Sorry to hear about your problem but sadly it is no surprise to me! BestBuy is definitely LACKING in the customer service department.

(as if the guy who says welcome to BestBuy as you enter the store is suppose to make me feel better.)

Employees are often not helpful, cocky or just busy BS-ing with one another. It's just a matter of time until they do follow the course of that other shop.

As for me personally I have refused to continue doing business with this company.

Re: BestBuy and Geek Squad future after competitor bankrupt

if we go out of business the economy is going to be huritng alot more than it is now. trust me. you should not wish that kind of thing in a economy like there is today. again i am part time so if we did go out of business it would not affect me but thing about the THOUSANDS of employees and companies that are going to be hurting. EX : samsung will start to hurt if the number one electronics store goes under.

um, part time employee.... nobody is WISHING that you guys go out of business. I think we all know the implications of that happening.

I think what we're WISHING for is better customer service. And what we're REALIZING is that now that BB is basically a monopoly in its market, they most likely won't make any steps to improve their ABSURDLY BAD customer service and treatment of customers. Why? because they won't need to.

Re: BestBuy and Geek Squad future after competitor bankrupt

Im confident Best Buy is going to stay in buisness. Besides, Best Buy has already offered severance packages to its CEOs, and those in leadership to prevent any kind employee cuts or things of that matter.

Now that CC is gone, its going to force some of that customer traffic into Best Buy... so if anything its probably going help. I mean, in my area the only other electronic store is Wally World

Do a little more each day that you think you possibly can. Keep your chin up, a smile on your face, and be happy to be alive.

Re: BestBuy and Geek Squad future after competitor bankrupt

Best Buy still needs to compete with a variety of brick-and-mortar stores whose names are all verboten.

So those will keep them somewhat honest.

They also need to compete with online retailers, many of whom have superior customer service, all of whose names are verboten here.  Two major NYC brick-and-mortar camera retailers who also have a major online presence are not but I have decided to leave them out anyway.

Re: BestBuy and Geek Squad future after competitor bankrupt

I was very involved in the CC forums and came over here to fill this CC forum widthdrawal that I am having and maybe help out some. This place is totally different from the CC forums.

It's kind of funny, we would get people in the CC forums all the time that would say "I'm never shopping at CC again and I'm taking all by business to BB"

Things do not look any better over here. There are 10X's the complaints in these forums.

I very rarely ever shop at BB. In the last 5 years I have been in a BB maybe 2 times, and I did not buy anything during those two visits. It has actualy been about 10 years since I purchased anything from BB.

Re: BestBuy and Geek Squad future after competitor bankrupt

I'm not wishing that the economy gets any worse by BestBuy going out of business. I know that there are real people that are involved that has families to provide for, and not everyone is terrible at BestBuy and Geek Squad. In retrospect BestBuy has to definitely get better in customer service. The reason CC went down is that there fell behind and did not learn the new rules in the electronics retailing industry. They lost against online sales. But CC did have better customer service on the floor and they respected their customers well. BestBuy is totally the opposite and now at their position without any other company big enough to compete they can do whatever they want at the brick-and-mortar level.

However online retailers will be a very big force to compete with for BestBuy. There are so many and by price alone they will beat BestBuy. They can offer those prices because they don't have to lease buildings and hire so many employees who don't do much of a service to its customers. BestBuy will have to step up its service if it is to be competitive. Service is their only differentiating feature and they really get a bad grade for that. A well known brick-and-mortar retailer the big "W" mart, sells electronics too also at very low prices and at least there I don't expect to get any kind of customer service. If deciding to purchase an item by price alone, I would go there to buy what I would need instead of BestBuy. As for now I'm getting all my electronics online from the big "A" and other east coast photo/video retailers whose name also starts with a "B" and end with an "H". I don't have to pay sales tax and I get a better feeling after shopping from them. I just leave with such a disgusting feelng always after shopping at BestBuy and dealing with GeekSquad and those feelings return whenever I even hear the word BestBuy and especially GeekSquad. BestBuy is not immune to bankruptcy if enough customers stop shopping there because of their lack of customer service.
