Okay I understand that Best Buy's left you feel isint your problem, just remember, theft does drive up costs and in the world where fecal matter runs downhill the added costs will be passed onto the customer.

This is easy.... If you don't like having your receipt checked, THEN DON"T SHOP AT BEST BUY. If they have a policy in place that you do not agree with (which I do understand), then why keep shopping there? It is like going to a restaurant that allows smoking, and whining about the smoke.... If you don't like it DON"T EAT THERE.
Seriously? It's like people these days feel like everything has to be their way, and that is that. Theft is freaking HUGE, we pay more out of pocket because of this. I have no problem with a store taking a quick look at my receipt. Cost co does it by POLICY. And dang right I am going to keep shopping there, where else am I going to get my 5 gallon bucket of mayo? ![]()
The only "policy" I ever say something about, is being asked for an ID when I am using my Credit Card (has never happened at BB). Because Visa and Mastercards policy is not to ask. And anyone that accepts Visa/MC is bound by their polices, not the stores policy. Both Visa and MC have a special 800 to call if you ever do get asked for ID to report the store, and that store can lose their right to accept credit cards. Same goes for "minimum purchase to use credit". Eh sorry going off on a tangent.
Back OT. OP really, if you don't like it that someone at the doors at Best Buy checks your receipt, you only have a few options. Shop somewhere else that may or may not follow the same policy. OR Shop online.....

Kostco* is different, they clearly state their policy in their membership agreement and they consistently check everybody. That's why I don't shop at Kostco - I don't like being treated like a thief and I know I always will be, every time. They aren't that great anyway - I'd rather have a wide selection (or a selection, period!) and higher quality items.
Anyway, as I said earlier, Best Buy doesn't really seem to have a consistent policy on this. They certain don't check everybody. I rarely get asked - I think the last time was at least 6 months ago, and before that, another 6 months or so. I guess I just get unlucky once in a while and encounter a door person having a power trip.
I should also mention that a lot of times shopping at Best Buy is the only option. They frequently have items exclusive to their store, like a special Steelbook edition of a movie or something. Believe me, I avoid shopping at BB as much as I can - I only go if they have an exclusive item or they somehow manage to have the lowest price on something. Yeah, I know, that makes me a "demon customer", but oh well...
* Why on earth is the proper spelling for this store's name censored here? Weird.

While I don't agree about giving anyone a hard time about checking your reciept I personally as you mentioned have not had them check mine or my items. But I do agree that the way it was handled was wrong and I am sure the Store will be informed of what took place and it will be looked into.

It is not Best Buy's policy to look at a customer's receipt to allow them to shop at a store. Anyone that tell you differently is flat out spouting falsehoods. If you can't show me the policy and are only talking about what the customer should or shouldn't do, well then that is just silly talk and can be counter acted with "Best Buy should give a free CD to any purchase over $100." Just plain silly. If you are employees good on you for trying to defend the company, but don't lie and say the customer is being checked for inaccuracies b the cashier. They are being checked for product making it's way into the bag. LP (the guys in the yellow shirts) are trying to hard sometimes to make sure that they are not seen for what there jobs really are, door greeter/ deterrent.

phrekyos wrote:Again, not an analogous situation. You're required by law to do that (not that I think very highly of the TSA either). Best Buy, however, does not have the power to search your personal belongings.
Besides, you're being searched to get ON a plane, not get off it.
Didn't read the WHOLE post here so this may have already been said, but by YOUR analogy you would rather BBY give you the once over BEFORE coming into the store than as your leaving.

Uh, actually, they usually want to put a sticker on any item you bring in (say, for a return) so they already do that too.
Since you mention it, while I was waiting by the door, a customer walked in with a box and the same door guy said, "um, 'scuse me, you NEED a sticker". It's certainly a more reasonable request, since you are asking to enter the store rather than leave it, but the phrasing and attitude was all wrong.

good lord. sounds like you prolly have stolen stuff before. a normal person is cool with their receipt being checked for 5 seconds while they are leaving a store. seek help.

You're the one that needs help if you think somebody standing up for their rights means they must be a thief. I've never stolen a thing in my life.
