BB Credit Card Vs. Standard Visa Card

I would like to purchase 2 laptops for my daughters for Xmas but will not have my Xmas bonus in time. I checked on a Visa card and can get one but saw the 0% Interest Ad for the Best Buy card and was curious if I should go with it. Does your credit score effect the Best Buy Interest as much as it would a Visa card. I have decent credit but not excellent.

Thanks

Rasha

Re: BB Credit Card Vs. Standard Visa Card

Applying for the Best Buy credit card is just like applying for any other department store card, they have the initial credit check. From there you either declined or approved for program A or program B, there is a little higher interest rate on program B and you cannot get a credit limit increase. However all of the financing offers are for anyone with a card. 90 days no interest on all purchases, 6 months  no interest on purchases $299 and up, and then the weekly finance offers!

Re: BB Credit Card Vs. Standard Visa Card

Hi Rasha,

I am sure your daughters will be surprised at their gift this Christmas! When you apply for the Best Buy® card, there are two types of cards you can apply for. There is the Best Buy™ Credit Card that comes with great financing offers; the current standard offers include no interest on all purchases for 90 days and no interest for 6 months on all purchases totaling $299 and up. Some general offers include 90-day interest free on any purchase and anything above $299 is 6-months interest free. There are also additional special offers which may vary each week for different product categories (for example, 18 months no-interest on laptops or 24-months no-interest on appliances); these are featured in the weekly Best Buy® circular ads. There is no application fee and you can apply online or at any local Best Buy® store.

After reviewing the Deferred Interest Info(http://www.bestbuy.com/olspage.jsp?id=cat12124&type=page&fCode=10) it appears that your credit score does affect if you qualify for one of two programs. Keep in mind that the Deferred Interest only affects when the purchase is not paid off in full before the promotional expiration.

As for the Reward Zone MasterCard program, your specific interest rate will be determined upon review of your credit history and application. The benefits of the Reward Zone MasterCard is that for every $1 spent you earn a point points toward reward certificated to use towards music, movies, electronic and more at Best Buy®. I hope that one of these credit cards fits your lifestyle.

Re: BB Credit Card Vs. Standard Visa Card

Be careful, if you apply for the best buy card and don't qualify they automatically sign you up for the best buy reward zone mastercard, which is actually under HSBC bank. They gave me a low credit limit, which was not be enough to even purchase a laptop or qualify for the 0 interest program and I was charged a $60 annual fee. Definately not worth it, I put my laptop on my visa card but learned an expensive lesson!

Re: BB Credit Card Vs. Standard Visa Card

I just applied for the in store Best Buy card and was excited that I was accepted... until I received the reward zone card  in the mail (which I DID NOT apply for) instead.  The Reward Zone card has an annual fee and a higher interest rate.  Good luck trying to get anyone at Customer service to try to explain to you how you can apply for one card with 18 months free interest and no annual fee and be given instead a card you did not want or apply for.  The several(6) people I spoke to informed me that I should be happy that I could receive the Reward Zone card since my application for the Best Buy in store card was turned down. WHAT TURNED DOWN???  First time I had heard that my application was declined and so the site automatically looks for  some way of giving you credit by giving you the Reward Zone card instead!!  This all sounds illegal to me.  I was hoping to purchase several items for my daughters graduation from Best Buy but not now....

Re: BB Credit Card Vs. Standard Visa Card

After all the horror stories of HSBC's crazy billing cycles and changing due dates I would never apply for the BB card.

Re: BB Credit Card Vs. Standard Visa Card

Hi carr1112,

I can certainly understand your disappointment if you were unaware of this until getting the card in the mail.  On the application page, it states:  "For your convenience, if we find that we cannot approve you for a Best Buy credit card at this time, we will automatically consider you for a Gold MasterCard® with Fee."  For any questions regarding your application, you may contact HSBC at 1.800.298.4240.  Please know that I will also forward your feedback to the appropriate management teams, as we definitely want our customer to be delighted by the services offered by HSBC.

Thanks for posting,

Re: BB Credit Card Vs. Standard Visa Card

The Gold mastercard with a annual fee should be a seperate application. I personally would never sign up for any credit card that carries a fee. or at least notify the customer that they have been disapproved for the BB card and approved for the MC with the annual fee. That way they could at least say NO they do not want that card.
