I went to the Best Buy store last week to get an iphone as I was eligible for an upgrade. I just found out last night that the associate did not upgrade my phone, like I asked him to, but instead gave me a new plan instead of keeping me in my own family plan. This leads to unnecessary costs because a separate plan has been given to me. Also, prior to the "upgrade" I had unlimited texts under my original family plan. Now, he did not even incorporate this into the plan and so I have potentially increased my costs even more.
I am asking how to go about fixing this problem? I was entirely eligible for an upgrade at the 99$ price point at the time of purchase of the phone. Is this an issue I have to go Best Buy or AT&T to fix?

Sounds like they went in last week and got it done but just now noticed the error.

I went to talk to AT&T. They were able to put me back on my original plan. However, the bill this month is going to be a bit wonky because they cannot backdate but they said that they would apply credits to the account to offset this. I will see how this works out
