here is the reason why they did not want to price match it because

Two more great reasons to buy with confidence at Best Buy.
If you are about to make a purchase and discover a lower advertised price offered by a local retail competitor on the same available brand and model, let us know and we'll match that price on the spot.
Already bought? We'll refund you the price difference from our own sale price, or 110% of the difference from our competitor's sale price, during the return and exchange period on your product.
Best Buy Puerto Rico Stores have their own store price guarantee. Also see our BestBuy.com Price Matching/Price Guarantee policy.
If the "on the spot" aspect of this were true, I wouldn't have had to go through this trouble now would I?
Exclusions:
The Price Guarantee does not apply to our or our competitors' free offers, limited-quantity items, items for sale November 28th & 29th, 2008, open-box items, clearance items, Outlet Center items, mail-in offers, financing, bundle offers or pricing errors.
The flash isn't free from B&H so I'm ok there, it's a regular stock item, it's December 26th, it's new in box, its a current model, B&H isn't an outlet for Canon, and the final three, don't apply.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is considered a local retail competitor?
A retail store located in the same market area as your local Best Buy store.
you listed out a whole bunch of stuff under the price matching policy, but you are missing out the key point. yes. best buy will price match competitors price. but B & H is NOT a competitor to best buy.
best buy won't recognize b & h as a competitive retail store. nor it's their competitior. it seems to me that B&H is mainly an online store with only ONE store in the whole world. and best buy do not match online stores.
as long as it's not recognized as a competitior, best buy does not have to price match them. some key competitor maybe:
Circuit C1ty
Office Depot
Staples
Compusa
Frys
R@dio Shack
Pricematching is a thing best buy trying to do to make customers happy. why are you trying to take an advantage of it? you want to drive 2 hour round trip, the gas will pay off that $50 you try to save, and plus meal money, which is another 10 and plus increase the chance of getting into an accident or pull over by the cops. you're willing to go through all that trouble for $50?

Shawn, how did you make out?
Wow, this is the exact same thing I am going through right now.
I am in the Los Angeles area and am looking to buy exactly this same product.
As of 12/28/09 Best Buy if offering this Canon 580EX II flash (SKU 8303356) for $449.99. B&H and Adorama are selling this for $395.00. Amazo n.com is selling for $391.95.
I've been to 2 local retail stores (#125 and #183) and both store managers said different stories and wouldn't match the price.

lol, It's almost like their saying, We will price match, as long as the company doesn't have an online store (which is almost every company), or offer prices any lower than ours..
Maybe they should add a few,
The store must be within 12 feet,
Must be open 24 hours,
Cannot be wider than 24 meters
and must have a taco bell located inside..

I just got back from the Torrance, CA Best Buy and they provided a price adjustment with no problem, it was the first time I ever did one but I was alert enough to realize that a phone I got last week was on sale this week.

@graffixx-
Adorama and B&H Photo have ONE Brick-and-Mortar location each, over 2,400 MILES away from Los Angeles. They are not local competitors.
In the NY/NJ area, I can see how this could be a grey area, but for anything outside of the greater NYC Metro Area, it's a non-issue as far as price-matching is concerned. This shouldn't be that difficult to understand based on the Terms and Conditions.

All this could have been solved by you buying the camera at the B&H. Why go through all the trouble with BBY if they were giving you the run around?
