we're not charged until it comes out/pick up at a store right?

Hello playaemagdnim,

This will depend on whether you pre-order it in-store or on

If you pre-order it in-store, you will be required to pay a minimum of a $25 deposit, the rest of which will be needed to be paid when you pick it up after it's release.

If you pre-order on with a credit or debit card, you will see an authorization charge for the full amount right after the order is placed. This is to ensure that the funds are available, and you will most likely see this authorization charge disappear and then be re-authorized throughout the length of the pre-order. The charge won't be finalized until the order is shipped or the store indicates it's available for pick-up. depending on whether you choose ship-to-home or in-store pickup.

If you pre-order on and use PayPal, the full amount will be charged once the order is placed.

Ok, so I went in store today and PreOrdered My Ps4.  It went silky smoothe, no problems.

However, I have been hearing horror stories about how Best Buy handles in store Preorders.  Basically, they are given on a first come first serve basis.

I would assume preordering NOW, at least 5 months before release, should somewhat guarantee you getting one on release.

When stores start getting their shipments this fall, are Preorders held back based on when people preordered them?  Those that preordered first will get their system before those that preordered weeks or months later?  The whole reason I preordered was so I didn't have to wait in a long line, but I am hearing stories that even when you preorder, you still have to wait in a long line.

What is Best Buy's policies for IN STORE PREORDERS?  How are the preorders distributed?  Will I still have to wait in line or will the system be held for me?

If I've pre-ordered in store will I be guaranteed a console on launch day?

I recently preorded the PS4 and opted to do the in-store pickup for my nearest BestBuy. I have 2 questions.

1.) Is that preorder a 100% guarantee that I will beable to pickup my PS4 on the day it is released at the store I selected?

2.) If there is a midnight release event at the BestBuy store I selected, will I be able to pick it up at that time?

Thank you!

I have a question I hope Best Buy really looks at the E3 2013 and does a promotion somewhat simialr to 2011 where you bought like 5 titles and got 100 dollars reward certificates? Or just keep adding victory is preordered 20 dollar certificates are just fine by me too? ANY INSIGHT?

Hello everyone,

It looks like a pretty common question in the last couple of posts is about when you'll be able to pick up your pre-ordered Playstation 4. It is certainly our goal to fulfill as many pre-orders as possible on launch day, but I am not able to guarantee that this will be able to happen for all customers who pre-order this console. There are a lot of factors that come into play with this, and we have a lot of time between now and when the system is actually released. As we get closer to launch, we should be able to provide you with some additional details regarding this process.

The same goes for any potential midnight releases. I don't have any details regarding that possibility at this time, but we will certainly do what we can to keep everyone informed as new information become available.

I find this confusing and kind of dissapointed by last post by best buy.  In some way its bad business to say they can't gurantee a ps4 for us that have preordered.  Has best buy forgotten about customer service? I guess when you are going out of businesss because majority of people choose online instead of their stores, customer service or customer loyalty matters not.  What is the point of preordering and then be charged full amount (PayPal)? I have been a best buy customer for well over 12 years but now I realize loyalty is not valued by best buy... Oh yeah also a premier silver for last five years.

I assume the situation is the same for every major retailer.  It's a demand issue on a popular Sony product.  Apple had the same problem when it releases new iPhone and iPad's.

Wanna skip the preOrders?

  • are you prepared to wait hours in line for a few consoles on the release day?
  • are you planning to pay a premium online from private sellers?
  • keep in mind this console will be released during the holiday buying season.... expect demand to be higher than the rest of the year.
  • the earlier you put in your preOrders, the more likely you will receive your PS4 on an earlier shipment.

I find it a little disappointing that Best Buy's distribution chain cannot provide the same level of service Amazon appears to be offering. Granted you are handling brick and motar stores as well as online sales but this seems to be a rather large opportunity that would give your customers a much needed sense of confidence when giving their money to you.

Given the choice if you had two people side by side offering the an item but one says i'll get it to you on launch day and the other says i aim to but i cannot guarentee it, realistically which would you choose? I've chosen Best Buy but this thread has made me doubt my decision.

if I have chosen to pick up in store (which I have) are people who camp out all night for the console going to get first dibs on all store stock? or are a certain amount reserved for pick up in store? At what point will you know how many units are being sent to store and will any information be given to the customers? I see you are still accepting pre-orders but no information is given on when we are expected to receive this pre-order.

I'd love to understand the process a bit more because i'd really like to know that i've made the right decision on where I have given my $460.

Thanks for any information.

Hello bkeny01,

The reason we're stating that we may not be able to guarantee all pre-orders will be fulfilled on launch day is because of how much time there still is before launch day. Once we get closer to the actual day, we will have a better idea of how many pre-orders we have, our final allocation numbers, and what this pre-order redemption process will look like.

I do want to clear up one item you mentioned. Our pre-order process is always to fulfill pre-orders before walk-in customers. If there are customers waiting outside stores on launch day but do not have pre-orders, they will only be able to purchase one if that store received more consoles than they pre-ordered. Also, as with any pre-order, we are working within a specified allocation of units and will continue to be able to accept pre-orders as long as we are within that number. It is possible that we will stop taking pre-orders depending on these numbers.

Please continue to stay tuned in the coming months as we will certainly be communicating out any updates.

Thank you.

It's amazing that both Amazon and GameStop have stopped preorders but not best buy. They talk about units allocated to best buy and find it kind of disturbing to the point where I should have gone with AMAZON.  Now I now my preorder will not happen on day one and will guarantee lame excuses of preorder or campers exceeding units allocated to individual stores. Instead of best buy trying to win back loyal customers they are sending away to other stores with better customer service.......I SMELL ANOTHER CIRCUIT CITY RE-RUN!!!

I am confused I already preordered at Best Buy Store in San Marcos ,CA, I'm willing to go pre order another l and what not for this deal but why are only certain stores listed? I mean I am reward zone and I would much have the 3X points. I also have them preordered so what do I do take my receipts from San Marcos to the nearest store having the events??? I am confused

Hello Joshua,

Much like midnight releases for certain titles, many of the special events that we hold at our stores only take place in select stores. A number of factors are considered when the stores are chosen, although I'll be honest, I'm not personally aware of the specifics.

If you're interested in taking advatage of the PlayStation 4 offer included in our Reward Zone Private Shopping Event on 7/28/13, you would need to visit one of our participating locations and place another pre-order. You could then cancel your original pre-order by visiting the store where you made that purchase.

You can view more specifics about the Xbox One/PlayStation 4 offers here.

Thanks for posting!

I was coming to post this exact question and this is a bit frightening.  I am a loyal customer and have been Silver for many years.  I pre-ordered mine the minute it came online after E3.  Now I heard about this issue where as other retailers are allocating certain numbers.  It seems BB is just taking in as many orders without and care of fulfilling them.  As someone who has had issues with pre-orders for games in the past I'm a bit uneasy.  I know that if I show up to the store and that some "camper" that didn't pre-order the console which plans to hit ebay and craigslist immediately get the console over me will be a very bad scenario.  BB needs to protect their loyal customers who actually make them money.  I would like clarification.  Thanks.

Hello dnut24,

I can assure you that we are not taking as many pre-orders as possible without care of fulfilling them. Whenver we offer pre-orders for a product we go off of our anticipated allocations as a guide to know how many pre-orders to take. You may have noticed that we stopped taking pre-orders for the Xbox One, which was done to help ensure we didn't take more than we can fulfill. We haven't reached that point with the PlayStation 4, which is why we are still accepting pre-orders.

The only way that someone without a pre-order should be able to get a console on launch day is if that individual store receives more consoles than they pre-ordered, as all pre-ordered units will be held once they arrive. Only quantities above the pre-order number will be available for purchase.

I hope this helps to address your concerns, and please feel free to view our Xbox One/PlayStation 4 Pre-Order FAQ if you have additional questions.

Thanks Matt, the fact that non preorder folks won't have "waiting in line" priority is comforting.  I will just need to speak with local manager to make sure they are aware of taking care of their loyal customers.  Are we certain the stores have been given this info on console distribution?

Hello dnut24,

The process that I mentioned is actually our standard process for all pre-orders so our stores are aware of how it should operate.

Sorry I meant no tax on preorders?

Hello tarheel336,

When you put money towards a pre-order in-store, that money is basically a deposit. We would not collect tax on that deposit. When you pick up your pre-ordered PlayStation 4, you will need to pay the additional amount, which in your case will be tax.

by tarheel336
on ‎08-23-2013 08:10 PM
So I can also use my best buy credit card to pay tax also? I lost my card so they looked up my account info on computer, will they be able to do this for the tax on launch day?

I got so excited when you guys sent me a email about this, but my smile quickly faded away when my store wasn't on the list. Why isn't the Owensboro, Kentucky store opening up at midnight? Is there not enough pre orders or something?

on ‎08-27-2013 10:48 AM

Hello tarheel336,

You would be able to use any accepted form of payment to pay the remaining balance, which includes the Best Buy Credit Card. The store should be able to look up your account just like they did last time if needed.

Thanks for posting!
