War is forever changing, adapting and shifting with the rise and fall of great ideas. From great ideas come revolutionary new forms of entertainment. Call of Duty and Infinity Ward has been the staple for the first-person shooter genre for over 13 years. With its incredible campaigns, fast-paced multiplayer and ever expanding universe Call of Duty has captured the Gamers imagination unlike any other game.
Let’s take a walk down memory lane and relive some of the greatest achievements in the franchise’s history.
Call of Duty (CoD) broke onto the scene in 2003 with a revolutionary WWII experience that engaged all forms of infantry and weapons. This was the beginning of varied perspectives within the Call of Duty universe and introduced the squad based mentality instead of the one-man-army approach. The sequel Call of Duty 2 (CoD 2) ventured into the WWII landscape again in 2005. CoD 2 improved on two crucial gameplay mechanics by overlaying an icon for nearby grenades and player health regeneration.
Treyarch developed Call of Duty 3 (CoD 3) in 2006. CoD 3 brought to the life the glory of the franchise by introducing the online multiplayer mode with up to 24 players. This would be the jumping off point for ranked matches, leaderboards and achievements. Fast forward to 2007 and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (CoD 4). The multiplayer mode took a leap forward with new game modes, leveling system and additional customized weapon upgrades. Infinity Ward was back at it again with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (CoD MW2) in 2009. Following the success of CoD MW2, Infinity Ward released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (CoD MW3) and gamers were introduced to three new game features including Kill Confirmed, Team Defender and Private Matches. This lead to Call of Duty: Ghosts (CoD Ghosts) squad vs squad, wargame and safeguard modes. This history has established a standard for the genre unmatched by any other title. You’ll find very few individuals that haven’t had a life changing experience within the Call of Duty franchise.
What does this all mean for Call of Duty Infinity Warfare? Your favorite game modes return, but with a new twist….SPACE! The franchise is embarking into new territory with new campaign mechanics with chain-based movement and fast-paced multiplayer maps. Leave Earth behind and engage unyielding enemies and extraordinary settings. The captivating story telling continues with classic Call of Duty staples of breathtaking landscapes and overarching realism of War. The Gamer will have to rely on the kindness of other intelligent life forms to collect resources and assist with rebuilding the world left behind.
Call of Duty will reintroduce Zombies in Spaceland. An 80’s style feel with the same great features Gamers loved about the original zombie modes. Finally, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Remastered will be included in the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Legacy Edition.
