If it's been off for 2 months, it needs time to charge before it will do anything. I got Touch's for my kids recently and they use them until they (the Touch, not the kids )turn themselves off, completely ignoring the low battery warnings. It takes about 2 minutes after plugging them in to show *any* sign of life. Even pressing the home button does nothing, and they don't show up in iTunes either. After a couple minutes, pressing the home button will bring up the charge indicator on screen (the lightning bolt), and a few minutes after they'll turn themselves back on and look normal. I would leave it plugged in for at least 20 minutes before worrying about it being damaged.
