Hey bethstar1990,
While iPods may freeze from time to time due to minor software problems, you should really only be seeing these kinds of error messages if there is some sort of internal hardware failure. If you’ve already tried all of the troubleshooting steps on Apple’s website however, repairs may be your only option.
On the other hand, Phil is also right in mentioning that you may want to contact Apple directly before seeking any kind of repairs. Apple support technicians may have additional trouble-shooting steps that they can walk you through over the phone. Apple can easily be reached toll-free at 1-800-275-2273, but remember that you may always bring your iPod into your local Best Buy® store if you would prefer a more local repair option.

it all depends on where it is on warranty. if it goes to your local apple store-they'll find the answer....
sounds like a hardware situation

Just an FYI.
To restart all NON iPod Touches press the center button and the menu button at the same time for about 5 seconds. This will do a hard restart of the iPod.
iPod Touches - Simply press and hold the "Home" key and the power button until the unit restarts.
