I received my free Windows 7 upgrading kit today in the mail. It took about a week to receive. Is there any thing I need to know before starting the upgrade.

I would backup any data that you have that's very important to you. Additionally, if it tells you that some some programs may not work right with win 7 I would uninstall them, as I have heard that this may cause problems.
Computers are NOT appliances, they MUST be maintained! Educate yourself on how to do this and save yourself headaches, repair bills, and lost data!

Hello JimH,
Microsoft offers a FAQ for folks who want to know how to prepare and complete the installation of Windows 7. You can find it here. If there's anything we can do to help, please let us know.

The kit you would not be able to use on an HP. You could use the upgrade media to upgrade the HP but the key provided will only allow for 1 activation. If you have already installed this software on the Gateway, you will be unable to activate on the HP.
