Samsung Refrigerator Nightmare

I bought a Samsung 26.5 c ft. refrigerator at Best Buy a couple years back and it’s the biggest appliance mistake I ever made. Although they look great on the showroom floor, they start to fall apart immediately. And Samsung absolutely does not stand behind their product. My refrigerator was only a few months old when the plastic around the glass shelves started breaking apart. Next I had to replace the condenser fan motor. Then all of the plastic on the inside liner started to crack and rot. Samsung made me pay to have one of their certified repair men come to my house. He did and certified that it was an unrepairable factory defect. Then the real fun began. I spent 6 months working my way through the customer service quagmire. I was told I would receive a prorated refund which never came. When I called back repeatedly over the following months I was given a variety of excuses. The final straw was when Toby, the customer service manager assigned to my case number suggested I “buy a cooler”. I have never been treated so badly by a corporation upon whose products I had spent so much money. Well over a grand spent on a refrigerator that is totally worthless!

Obviously, I am not going to get reimbursed by Samsung and I have to buy a new fridge. I am wondering 2 things. Has anyone else had a similar experience with Samsung, and can anyone recommend a brand that will actually last more than a few years?

Re: Samsung Refrigerator Nightmare

I have never had a Samsung appliance except a microwave but looking a customer comments around the web this seems like a not uncommon problem.  It looks like Samsung has a larger than normal dead out of box rating and lemon product rating but if you get a good one they are very good.  It also depends on what style you are looking for, like freezer on the top/side/bottom seems to have different brands ranked at the top.  Currently it looks like  side by side fridges have Whirlpool, GE and Maytag as the best longevity ratings while bottom freezer has LG, Whirlpool and Kitchenaid getting the best reviews.  I personally have a Ge Profile fridge in one of my houses, a whirlpool fridge in another and a LG fridge in the last and I like my GE bottom as it has had the least amount of issues but it is also the most expensive.

Re: Samsung Refrigerator Nightmare

:smileymad:I am currently going through the same nightmare as you. I bought a Samsung French door refrigerator and it has been a major headache. Where I live there is no authorized service center to service a Samsung product. A local appliance repairman came to look at it and said both twin cooling fans were not working that is why the refrig was not cool enough and the ice maker was not working properly. The only thing I get is called radiant cooling without the fans working. I have been after samsung to resolve this issue for about 6 weeks now. I finally spoke to someone in executive customer relations for samsung and was told I was going to get my purchase price(2000.00) credited and would get a replacement unit of my choice. All this happened last week and I called them today and due to a system error last week my request had to be resubmitted yesterday. If you are looking for a refrigerator go with american made such as GE,Amana,Whirlpool, kitchenaid,Fridgdaire,Kenmore to name a few. I hope that this nightmare comes to a close soon for both of us as we have learned a lesson about samsung. Also samsung and LG products are both from south korea just to let you know.:smileymad:about samsung

Re: Samsung Refrigerator Nightmare

Sorry to hear it is happening to you as well. I have actually been getting a lot of responses from people on my facebook page about it. Apparently it is pretty common. i just hope your outcome is better than mine. It really cheeses me off to be buying a new refridgerator. I used to be a huge Samsung fan. Now you couldn't pay me to take one of their products. Best of luck to you.

Re: Samsung Refrigerator Nightmare

Did you try contacting the store or Best Buy service department?  Maybe they can send out a repairman to look at it?

Re: Samsung Refrigerator Nightmare

Yes Best Buy does have a service person that could handle the problem, my problem is that I live too far outside the service area. Some good news Samsung has authorized a replacement for my fridge, so I hope this matter will be cleared up soon.

Re: Samsung Refrigerator Nightmare

My Samsung fridge nightmare is finally over. After numerous calls to samsung executive consumer relations, they gave me a store credit for my entire purchase price and I got to pick out a new fridge. It was delivered yesterday and I said good bye to the samsung one. I now have a GE profile side by side in stainless steel and it is so wonderful to have a fridge that works the way it should. Always buy american appliances; GE,Amana,Whirlpool,Kitchen Aid,Frigidaire,Kenmore ,ETC. No more samsung products for me, I have learned a very valuable lesson. I hope that anyone who has had similiar issues can get them corrected.:smileyvery-happy:

Re: Samsung Refrigerator Nightmare

GE, GE profile, and GE monogram French doors are made by Samsung. Their side by side refrigerators are not made by Samsung but are very very similar. I am sorry to hear you having that issue with your refrigerator but honestly I Samsung is the best in my opinion..... There will be lemons with any manufacturer, dealing with the manufacturer with any of the companies can and is usually a nightmare. Service plans in my opinion are worth it just so you never have to do that, in addition they cover normal wear and tear so plastic breaking will most likely e covered :smileyvery-happy:

Plus you can walk into the store and talk face to face with another human being.  That's why I get them and recommend them to customers.
