Re: Recommended refrigerator please?

Don't be silly, it's not a question of being malicious, it's simply a question of self-preservation. A salesperson who sells high-commission items often has to mislead by leaving out or "adjusting" information that would otherwise cause you to make a different buying decision. I worked in retail sales for quite a while selling high-commission items, and there's no shame in it (in fact I enjoyed it quite a bit and learned most of what I find valuable today). I'm not sure why you're so defensive about this, it's simply the way the world works, and it's perfectly legal. But naive customers (which is, frankly, most) often find themselves in a situation that they regret, and that they would not have been in if a less successful salesperson (i.e., one who told a more objective story) had served them.

Like I said, you don't ask your barber if you need a haircut any more than you would ask the CEOs of the largest energy companies to design the country's energy policy, or ask Wall St to define and enforce the regulations that prevent fraud and abuse. When you need objective information to make a buying decision on an expensive product, you look in objective places, and the salesperson whose living will not be made by sending you away is not one of them.

Re: Recommended refrigerator please?

The best part about all this is you don't seem to realize that best buy employees don't work on commission. All your years of retail experience in the high-stress corporate sales floor environment is all well and good, but it sure doesn't apply to best buy.

Re: Recommended refrigerator please?

Good Grief! I am surprised that the administrators are allowing this bs to continue.

For your information. It is true that best buy sales people don't get commission but they are

required to meet certain sales quotas. And during this economic crisis that means that if Person A

meets their sales quota and Person B does  not meet their sales quota ....and Best Buy needs to lay off

one person....guess who will be laid off?  So there is incentive in selling.

It's clear that certain appliances work better than others. After reading these boards, I would never buy an

LG product.

One of the best functions of this board is to get resolution with problems with purchases, repair contracts and the

poor customer service with Geek Squad.

Last January 2009, I finally got resolution after having issues with getting my washer repaired. The Geek Squad should be returned...wherever they came from.  The Geek Squad is truly a worthless entity of Best Buy. However, one woman (who contacted me after my long rant on these message boards about my situation) and finally resolved my issue by sending me a new washer...it cost me some more money....as it always does...But after 6 weeks with no washer, I was at my wits end. (product was Whirlpool Washer and Dryer) Please note that I have had issues with the dryer as well. Once you have the product replaced, the existing warranty becomes null and void and you need to buy another warranty...and the cost of individual warranties is more than half of the washer and dryer warranty combo.

Now getting back to the point. As I stated before Kitchenaid products seem to work well for me. I like the look, they are less expensive that Viking, Wolf...etc. I do have 1 non Kitchenaid product...my stovetop...which is Viking...and when I first got all of the new appliances, guess which product had issues....the Viking product.  Best Buy does not sell this product...nor did I purchase these products....from Best Buy.

Now...please stop with this petty nonsense and move on.

Have a great day!

Re: Recommended refrigerator please?

Not LG.  We purchased a french door refrigerator less than a year ago which cost 2300.00.  This unit has since been discontinued.  Hmmm......what does that say already?  It has been broken for 3 weeks now.  LG sent a tech out 4 times and finally he deemed it unrepairable.  Now I have to wait another 1-2 weeks for all the paperwork to go through before I can go to Best Buy (which is about 45 minutes away from here) to pick out my new refrigerator.  We have been living out of coolers for almost a month now.  How healthy is that?  I have called a number of times to try and push things through a little faster, but they all keep saying that I just have to wait until the paper work comes through.  Nobody cares about the consumer anymore.  It is all just paperwork to them.  I am very aggravated and would hope that the phrase, "the customer is always right" makes a comeback.  It is a good thing I don't need to keep medication in a refrigerator or I'd be in big trouble.  It's bad enough that we are eating food from a cooler where you can't control a stable temperature.

Re: Recommended refrigerator please?

Well did you purchase a service plan, thats my first question? I have been working here 5 years now and have not seen this problem occur, especially if your under our service plan.. i schedule appointments for our techs (geeksquad) to come out to the house.. I am able to get my consumers taken care of within a 2 day turn around. As far as LG it is one of the top selling refrigerators i have not seen a consistant problem with them.

Re: Recommended refrigerator please?

"Well did you purchase a service plan, thats my first question?"

I suspect that you're replying to the post by Linny, and not mine, where I did say that I had purchased the extended service plan. But to that suggestion, I can report that my experience has been totally unacceptable. For one thing, on two occasions, Geek Squad claimed to have no record of my service call (they didn't show after I took a day off work), even though I had ticket numbers (they said those numbers had other people's names on them). Next, on one occasion they ordered the wrong parts (for a different model, even though they had come to the house and noted the model number). And they weren't particularly competent about the work that they did, nearly damaging both the refrigerator and parts of my kitchen. So if your point is that the extended service plan would save you the trouble that I've gone through, I can say that I'm beginning to think spending the money on a visit to an attorney might have been more productive.

Now everyone's experience is different, and there are probably some people who have had totally satisfactory service from Geek Squad, and I know for a fact that the problems that I and others have reported do not occur on all models of LG refrigerator. I've already said that I consider them to be excellent value and to have excellent features, but that only applies so long as they work as promised. Not all of them do. In fact, too many of them don't, in my opinion. There are just too many reports on this forum and elsewhere on the web to say that these are isolated cases. The evidence suggests that they are systemic - with both certain series of LG refrigerators and with Geek Squad.

Re: Recommended refrigerator please?

Yes, I did get the extended service plan but since the refrigerator "died" before one year was up, I had to go through LG.  I am not badmouthing Best Buy. We buy all our appliances there and have never had a problem.  I am; however, appalled at how long it has taken LG to resolve this.  It is going on 4 weeks now without a refrigerator.  I have nothing but good things to say about Best Buy.  I am just really frustrated with LG.

Woo no i was not speaking about your case..

Yes that is unfortunate that GS was not at its best for you. It is a fact that every model of every brand has seen similar problems too. So i dont know your story but, maybe the Best Buy i am employed buy is one of the best, bc i never see the problem. Im sorry about what has happened to you, Ill also tell ya that an attorney would not have gotten you anywhere, bc by the time the could work on your case im sure you will be taken care of by Best Buy.. and i dont even really know your problem

Re: Recommended refrigerator please?

I was mainly trying to make a point, because in cases like this, it's very unlikely that (except for class action), resorting to lawyers is worth the time, money and effort. The point I wanted to make is that, for major appliances (as opposed to perhaps consumer electronics), Geek Squad has not proven to be a satisfactory service organization, and the manner in which extended service has been honored for me and others make it a very poor investment.

To your point about all brands of refrigerator having problems, that is of course true. In fact, it's more true than one might suspect, because (in case you didn't know, though as an employee, you probably do or should) many products are sold under several different brand names. Kenmore branded washers and dryers have been made by Whirlpool, several "American" brands of refrigerator by LG (a Korean company), etc. The very LG models that have been reported to have these problems are also sold under other brands, and those, too, have exactly the same problems.
