Need advice about purchasing a dryer

Our dryer went out and we need some information about buying a new dryer. What's this hoopla about dryers not coming with a power cord? We don't need a venting kit as our old dryer still has a perfectly good venting system, but I find it strange that dryers cost so much money and then they want you to pay a ridiculous amount for the cord and then want to charge you to have someone install the cord for it. Gee I wish I was an electrician at this point as I could do it myself but don't want to ruin a new item I would purchase. I can't spend no more then $400 total on this.

Re: Need advice about purchasing a dryer

Hey there hockey-

I’m by no means an appliance expert, but my understanding is that for safety, all dryers require a three plug power cord to make sure it’s adequately grounded.  In addition, building codes require that venting kits be upgraded or we won’t install the unit.

I’d recommend talking to our appliance experts at your local Best Buy when you get an opportunity as they can better explain these details as well as find you the exact dryer you’re looking for!

Thanks!

Re: Need advice about purchasing a dryer

I recall the last two dryers that I purchased needed the special cord. It seems, not only does your dryer require connection, you also have to be sure that your AC wall plug is set up correctly to plug the dryer into! I assume the dryer would need 220 VAC?

[ Edited ]

I am no expert at appliances but I wanted to share my experiance with buying a dryer. I bought an electric clothes dryer last year from {removed per forum guidelines}. It is a Bosch dryer, model number WTB86201UC. I got it at a reduced price because they were havinga  Autumn sale at that time. There haven't been any complaints and it has been working good for the past year. So if you are looking to buy a dryer check out their website also. Since it's the fall season they may be offering discounts.

Re: Need advice about purchasing a dryer

Dryers do not come witha  power cord because not all of the houses are wired the same at the location where the dryer is to be.

You don't have to be an electrician to attach a power cord.

There are 3 screws and 3 wires.  If you can open a jar of peanut butter you can attach a cord.

IF dryers came with cords they would have to include 2 cords.  and they would build it into the price.
