Do you have Verizon Cable or is your mom getting her internet via her phone service?
If you have Verizon cable you may need to contact Verizon about a modem.
I have Charter Spectrum and I can buy my own modem and use that but it has to meet Charter Spectrum hardware requirements

Good question! It truly depends on what the issue actually is. If your internet is slow and is through Verizon directly, it could be that your mother’s current modem is struggling to receive signal. If you haven’t tried already, I’d suggest just turning the modem off and then back on to see if that resolves the issue.
Otherwise, our super user, bobberuchi, is spot on in that Verizon would be the best place to contact to ensure you are purchasing hardware that meets their specific requirements. I did find a short approved list on their site though! You may view it by clicking here.
