The problem is that Best Buy themselves quoted a "pickup on Friday September 16".  They would know ahead of time how many they were receiving, and if they knew they were getting none, they should not have made that statement on their website at all, or even better, not sold that particular model.  So yes, although the lack of stock is from Apple (they won't have much loose stock either), the blame of relaying this information to us is 100% on Best Buy.  It would be a decieving practice to say, "order from us, pick up the 16th in store" when you would know in the back of your mind you don't have enough to go around.

The answer to this really is no, there is no way to know.  However, I'm assuming Best Buy will be providing gift cards to users who get their release date pushed back (decently long into the future, whatever that threshold is).  The value is typically around 50 dollars.  So even if you chose a shipping method (say standard or 2 day) that was quoted to be at your door on the 16th, they may still send it overnight expidited (or even same day) if it is cheaper than the value of the gift card.

Over the years I've come to learn that Best Buy's communication process is pretty much crap. Not even their own associates know what's going on.

Last Friday morning, the 9th at 9:30, I was standing at Best Buy's doors waiting on them to open, to preorder my iPhone 7 plus black 128 gb. I've preordered all of my iPhones this way since the iPhone 4.

They open, and I'm first in line at the mobile desk. The associate sits down and begins the process. This is where the fun begins. 40 minutes later, they figure out it's not possible to preorder the 7 plus in the store. She said you have to do it on the website.

I go on the website, on my phone, and there are almost no phones available by now. I notice that the 256 gb black is still available, so I choose that. Once I begin the order process, I have issues with the website. She tries to do it on her computer. Nadda. She tries on her cell phone at the same time I try again on mine. 35 minutes later, I'm going through the order process. I have to try it about 8 times to be successful. But I did preorder a black 256 plus.

By now, its about 11:45, and I'm sure I'm at the back end of the preorder priority list. Even though I was the first to set foot in the store that morning, just as I had been doing for years.

To make matters worse, I called two Best Buy stores the day before to ask how the preorder process would work. Both answers were the same. "Just as they have for the past several years". But the store was open and selling phones well before even their own associates knew the 7 pluses wouldn't be available to preorder in store. You would think that's a tidbit that would have come down the chain prior to that point. Had I known the day before, I would have gotten up at 0300 that morning, and done it on their, or ATT's website. At least then I wouldn't be 9 hours behind the curve, and way down the list. I imagine, this will be my last phone purchase from Best Buy.

Now, I'll be the first to say that this is indeed a 1st world problem, and I'll count myself blessed that this is the extent of my problems this week. But, it's still a bummer that this will be the first launch day I've missed, because Best Buy sucks at communicating.

That my preorder story for this year, and I'll wager that next year it's really gonna be fubar with the iPhone 8.

i'm actually not worries...i preordered on the 9th had my the full amount pending on my cc. About an hour ago the charge appeared back on ym card only meaning they will be shipping asap.

Both our orders now say "awaiting authorization" as well, there is however 2 authorizations for each phone pending to my card. ..??

iPhone 7 Pre-order help!

I think I just need some reassurance that my iPhone 7 that was pre-ordered the moment of launch will arrive on time!  I have pre-ordered two phones, and I have received notification that one has shipped (this one was ordered way later in the day).  When looking at my orders online, this one phone shows as completed.

 

The one that was ordered at midnight of release still says "In Progress".  It is critical the phone arrive, which is why it was ordered right at midnight. Please reassure me it will arrive.

Hey Everyone,

 

I wanted to put something on this thread today as Tasha is off today. Don't worry; Tasha will be back tomorrow to support the launch of these phones. I didn't really have time to read through each of your posts as I am trying to climb out of the hole that is the Note 7 withdrawal.

 

Keep in mind that as a company no employee is allowed to comment on possible future inventory. Questions like when will I get my new iPhone will not be able to be answered unless it is shipped with a tracking number. Please be patient while we work through this thread. Lastly, we truly do appreciate your business!!

I posted yesterday, just giving an update. My phone shipped with a delivery date for tomorrow. My status updated online and I also received an email saying it had shipped. I ordered the matte black 7 256 for sprint. Hope that is of help to someone.

Are you you able to shed some light on why the orders are now saying awaiting authorization for some people? It's said that pretty. Much all day. Just hoping it's not some indication of some kind of problem.
