For the Samsung Gear VR, the Galaxy Note7, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy Note5, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge phones would be compatible.  As such, you may be interested in the Galaxy S6 if you're looking for more affordable options.
